Calan Mai Weekend - Celebrating the Summer

  • Parc yr Arglwydd | Lords Park farm Llansteffan Wales, SA33 5LT United Kingdom (map)

One Saturday of every month, we welcome you to the farm to get involved with what’s going on on the land and for seasonal celebrations, nature-based taster-sessions and mini-workshops. It’s a wonderful chance to see what’s been happening on the farm, learn new skills and enjoy a relaxing, fun day with like-minded company!

This month, we’re holding an extra special Community Farm weekend to celebrate Calan Mai and the coming of Summer. On the Saturday, we’ll be holding an Open Day to come and see what progress has been made on the farm so far, as well as a talk on the history of Lords Park with Wynford Davies (1.30pm), tenant of this land for 51 years. As the Hawthorn trees blossom in the hedgerows, a true marker of Calan Mai, we’ll welcome local artist Karn John for a workshop celebrating botanical colour and honouring the Calan Mai Hawthorn blossom as we learn to make inks.

On Sunday, we’ll be hosting a Helping Hands morning, a chance to lend a hand with farm activities, get your hands in the soil and help bring some projects forward. And then, in the afternoon, we’ll welcome musician Peni and Stef from Twmpath band Tan Annwn to lead us in some dancing around the Maypole!

As ever, we’ll be having a bring-and-share lunch, so please do bring a dish for the lunch table on the Sunday. Vegan-friendly dishes are encouraged to ensure that the spread suits everybody! We’ll have lunch around 12.30pm. We’ll provide refreshments through the day and everything else you might need, including mugs, plates and cutlery. Waterproofs and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended!

Let us know you’re coming, on Saturday, Sunday or both, on the button below! Look out, too, for updates and additions to the programme as we edge closer to the first day of Summer!

*To get the best from the day, we really do recommend trying to arrive on time if you can!
