Little Stewards has new offerings!

We are excited to be back with new programmes and activities!

At Glasbren, we know that our future depends on the young ones, the ‘Little Stewards’ of the land. We’re also passionate about nurturing the natural awe, wonder and connection children have with the natural world, and their instinct to protect it. In 2024 we started our first Little Stewards programs and thanks to National Lottery Community Fund ‘Egin” we can take our offerings even further. This Spring 2026 we are excited to open our doors and fields to the wider community, offering bilingual ‘Little Stewards - Activity Days’, family centred volunteer days, monthly permaculture workshops for teenagers and seasonal events right here at Lords Park farm.

“Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. If we are going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature.”

Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods

Whether tending the land, nurturing young seedlings, harvesting its gifts, or preparing food from the earth — whether standing on the hills where three rivers meet before flowing into Carmarthen Bay, wandering the ancient woodlands, or running along the beach at Scotts Bay collecting mermaid’s purses and cockle shells — this land offers endless discoveries, wonders, and secrets to uncover.

Stewardship def. (noun) ‘to manage something that was given into your care responsibly and carefully’

Our Little Stewards programme invites local families and children to connect deeply with the land, their own bodies and hearts, and their wider community. We create a spacious, caring environment where awe and wonder are preserved and reawakened — a place where children are trusted to grow their own food, design and tend their own plots, and learn vital life and nature skills through play and adventure.

Blending the principles of forest school, permaculture, nature connection, and mindfulness, Little Stewards balances play and creativity with learning and purposeful action. Sessions extend beyond the farm to beaches and woodlands, where children explore the wider web of life — and always end with a moment of stillness, reflection, and connection to the wisdom within.

“Supporting children from early childhood to develop a sensitive, compassionate and cooperative relationship with each other and the natural world is a crucial step”

‘Little Stewards’ Family Fun - Volunteer Day

Starting May 2026, join us every Thursday for a full day of outdoor immersion for both you and your child, in a safe and nurturing environment. Our space is open from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm, and each session begins with a nature- and season-inspired story, game, or activity, a gentle way for everyone to arrive, settle, and connect with the space and the community.

Afterwards, we’ll work together on the Little Stewards plot: weeding, making compost, digging, or planting seeds. Children are always welcome to help, but they’re equally free to explore our safe, enclosed garden and follow their own playful curiosity. Parents can enjoy connecting with other families and sharing in a sense of community.

Every session concludes with a communal meal shared with the Glasbren volunteer team. Family Fun Volunteer Days are always free of charge, and we offer  dry wet-weather options so the fun continues whatever the forecast.

Elder Stewards

Step into a deeper relationship with land, community, and self through our Elder Stewards program, a monthly journey in permaculture and holistic stewardship for teens aged 12–17.

Held every last Saturday of the month, these three-hour sessions invite participants to explore design, emotional intelligence, and regenerative farming through hands-on, creative learning.

Across six gatherings, youth collaborate to develop a permaculture design for a chosen site on the farm, practicing observation, systems thinking, and care for living world.

Rooted in the spirit of Little Stewards, this program nurtures curiosity, confidence, and purpose, empowering people to imagine and design resilient, futures.

Age group: 12-17

Thanks to the Egin Lottery Grant, this workshop is free, with a £10 administration fee.

Facing our current climate crisis we need a generation of stewards in every dimension of life, growing up as a rounded personality with an intrinsic awareness of the interdependence of all life on earth and our unique role in this.

As our Little Stewards grow, we’ll mentor them into our young people & adults programmes, offering an educational experience over years that will help shape the land stewards, farmers and environmental advocates of the future.

Little Stewards Activity Days

Join us for a day of hands-on connection, curiosity, and playful learning with Little Stewards. Children tend their own garden , explore the wider landscape, experiment in the kitchen, and engage in free and guided play, all in a safe, nurturing environment.

From seasonal stories and sharing circles, to harvesting veg from our very own garden and cooking it over the fire; from venturing into the woods to find secret tracks, build dens or river dams; to following the meandering stream down to the beach, gather seaweed or look for fossils; and finally finishing with mindful art, music, and movement…; our activity days and each session within it is designed to foster care for the land, confidence, creativity, and a sense of wonder.

We offer flexible participation options: morning, afternoon, full day, or a mix of guided and free-play sessions — with full-day discounts available.

We must teach our children
To smell the earth,
To taste the rain,
To touch the wind,
To see things grow,
To hear the sun rise
And night fall,
To care.
