Little Stewards | Stewardiaid Bach
Little Stewards has now come to an end for 2024.
We’ll be back in early 2025 with new programmes and activities!
At Glasbren, we know that our future depends on the young ones, the ‘Little Stewards’ of the land. We’re also passionate about nurturing the natural awe, wonder and connection children have with the natural world, and their instinct to protect it. In 2024, we’re excited to establish our new nature-based programmes for home-educated and flexi-schooled children here at Lords Park farm.
“Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. If we are going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature.”
Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods
On our new site, the beautiful, 134-acre coastal landscape of Parc yr Arglwydd | Lords Park farm, we’re planning a regular programme for local children called ‘Little Stewards’, offering a unique approach to connecting the child to land, their own body and soul and their wider community. It’s aim would be to create a spacious, loving and caring environment where the awe and wonder of the child is preserved, reawakened and remembered - where with guidance and support children are given the responsibility and trust to grow their own vegetables, create abundant foodscapes, steward a little piece of this earth and manage, regenerate and design it in the shape of their imagination, to learn vital life and nature skills through play and adventure in a safe environment.
“Supporting children from early childhood to develop a sensitive, compassionate and cooperative relationship with each other and the natural world is a crucial step”
Children in Permaculture

School Groups
Over the last six years, we’ve worked with several local schools to introduce key aspects of food growing, sustainability, cooking and foraging, woodland crafts & nature-based activities, and why they matter for the future. Sessions can be offer bi-lingually, in English and Welsh.
Please get in touch if you’d like us to w0rk with your primary of secondary school, or if you’d like to arrange a school visit to the farm.
Facing our current climate crisis we need a generation of stewards in every dimension of life, growing up as a rounded personality with an intrinsic awareness of the interdependence of all life on earth and our unique role in this.
As our ‘Little Stewards’ grow, we’ll mentor them into our young people & adults programmes, offering an educational experience over years that will help shape the land stewards, farmers and environmental advocates of the future.
Stewardship def. (noun) ‘to manage something that was given into your care responsibly and carefully’
We’ll be working with children from as young as 1 years to 12 in various programs offered; like ‘‘mini stewards’, parent & offspring sessions, 2 weekly full day sessions for children aged 6-12 years (the main little stewards group - accommodating home-educated children), shorter sessions for 4-6 year old children focusing on music, play and movement as well as holiday clubs and sessions for school groups. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
‘Mini Stewards’ Parents & Offspring
Join our group of little explorers to discover the wonders and secrets of nature through storytelling, play, treasure hunts, foraging, wildlife tracking, permaculture and more… These twice weekly sessions offer your child the chance to learn in nature with other children of a similar age, and you the opportunity to bond with your child and fellow parents in this unique landscape.
Age group: 2-8 (older siblings welcome)
‘Mini Stewards’ has now finished for 2024. We’ll return in early 2025!
We must teach our children
To smell the earth,
To taste the rain,
To touch the wind,
To see things grow,
To hear the sun rise
And night fall,
To care.
